Obituary of Gilbert James Brotzel
Gil, of Lumsden, SK passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the age of 78. Gil is survived by Lorna, his wife of 47 years; his 4 sons, Jerome (Erin), Dan (Michelle), Dwayne (Colette) and Mike (Colleen); five grandchildren Justin (Brittany), Erin, Darcie, Aidan and Ryan; 2 great grandchildren Summer and Jet. Gil is also survived by his brother, Albert (Anne) Brotzel; sisters Millie (Ken) Waurynchuk and Gail Summerfeld. Gil is predeceased by his parents, Kasper and Magdalena Brotzel of Kerrobert and sister Louise (August) Zary of Saskatoon. Prior to developing Lewy Body Dementia, Gil was a fun loving person who would strike up conversations with complete strangers. He enjoyed music, dancing, motorcycles, and camping with his boys. Gil was always helping others. He also had many talents: He worked as a mechanic, cement finisher and built sub-stations for Sask Power with Dowie Construction. His last job was maintenance for the Village of Craven. He built the family residence in Craven and later a cottage at Clearview Resort. At Gil’s request, a small private family service will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran church in Lumsden. No flowers please. If you wish, a donation could be made to Gil’s favourite charity – the Regina Humane Society.
