Erlene Newman
1921-2019
NEWMAN ERLENE – Also known as “Mammie”, by all who knew
her; passed away the Campobello Lodge Nursing Home on Tuesday, April
2nd, 2019 at the age of 97 years. Daughter of the late H. Erlon Cline
& Hilda (Townsend) Cline. Wife of the late S. Winslow Newman.
After the loss of her mother at the age of 15 Erlene became the
homemaker for her younger siblings and father and then went on to
various jobs from switch board operator to sardine packer at H.W.
Welsh Factory in Wilson’s Beach.
Erlene was a member of St. Ann’s Anglican Church. She was
also the president of the Campobello Ladies Auxillary Branch # 83 of
the Royal Canadian Legion.
Erlene is survived by 2 daughters Hilda Henderson and Mary
Mitchell (Stanley), 5 grandchildren David Henderson, Todd Savage
(Carolyn), Scott Henderson (Lisa), Carla Savage (Leo), Jill
Matheson(Carman); also survived by 11 great grandchildren and 21 great
great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a special
friend Sylvia Tinker.
She was predeceased by her husband S. Winslow Newman, two
brothers Raymond Cline and his wife Kathleen, Francis Cline and his
wife Isabel, and her son …in – law Sherman Henderson.
By Erlene’s request cremation will take place. A memorial
graveside will take place on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 at
Wilson’s Beach Community Cemetery, Head Harbour Road,
Campobello, NB; with time to be announced.
Donations to the Wilsons Beach Community Cemetery Fund in
Erlene’s memory would be appreciated by the family. On line
