Emilia’s Obituary
Emilia Shewchuk of Peace River, AB (formerly of Nampa, AB) passed away peacefully on April 7, 2019 at the age of 89 years. She was born October 8, 1929 to Frank and Anna Jancek in Habovka, Czekoslovakia. Emilia was predeceased by her husband, Nick Shewchuk, and sons, Terry and Peter and is survived by her daughter, Irene (Don Gladman) of Calgary, AB, daughter Donna of Calgary, AB, son Dan (Melanie) of Nampa, AB, grandson, Chris (Erin Loffler)of Brooklyn,NY, granddaughter, Annalise (Matthew Reid) of Leduc, AB and daughter in law, Shelley of Nampa, AB. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Saliwonchuk and several nieces and nephews.
Emilia came to Canada in 1939 with her mother, Anna, to join her father, Frank, who had already been here for about eight years working to afford to bring his little family over. At the age of seventeen she married the boy next door and began life as a homemaker and farm wife. Winters were tough as Nick worked on the rigs and she had to care for the children and animals mostly by herself with some help from her dad and the kids as they got older. She always had a huge garden and many people were the lucky recipients of the bounty. Emilia also loved reading and baking, her enormous collection of cookbooks can attest to that!
Emilia was always a kind, thoughtful woman and she will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held April 20, 2019 3:00pm at the Senior’s Drop In Centre in Peace River, AB and will be followed by an afternoon tea.
The family wishes to thank all the care workers at Heritage Towers and Points West as well as Dr Mochinski and the nurses at PR Hospital who all did their very best to make her last years as comfortable as possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
