Edmond Joseph Robichaud 2019

(1923 – 2019)
Acadieville – Edmond Joseph Robichaud, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loved ones, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on March 30th, 2019. Born in Acadieville in 1923, Edmond was the second youngest son of the late Frederick Robichaud and Elise (Guimond) Robichaud. He was predeceased by his four brothers: Leonard, Leon, Jean, Emery; and four sisters: Marie, Therese, Angel, and Jeanne.
He will be missed by his wife of 68-years, Irene (LeBlanc) Robichaud; his one remaining sister Rufine; his four children: Sandra Jennings (John), Ronny (the late Bonnie), Arnold (Lise), and Larry; seven grandchildren: Sean, Bobby, Chris, Natasha, Charlie, Corey, Curtis; three great-grand children: Arianna, Emma, Quinn; and several nieces and nephews.
Edmond will be remembered as an honorable and hard working man, a devoted father and husband, and a wise, warm, kind-hearted soul that found true happiness in the smallest things in life.
Even at the young age of 13, Edmond put his duty above all else, spending an entire year taking care of the family farm so that his parents could work away in Saint John.
A veteran of World War II, Edmond enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in Saint John, NB, on November 10, 1942, at the young age of 18, following in the footsteps of his bother Leonard. Edmond served in the United Kingdom, Belgium (where he was reunited with his brother Leonard), fought on the frontlines in France, and took part in the liberation of Holland, earning five medals: the 1939-45 France-Germany Star, the Canadian War Medal 1939–1945, the Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp, and the ‘Thank You Canada Medal’ (50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Holland).
Edmond returned from the war to work at the Saint John port alongside his father and brothers, Emery and Leonard. Later in life, he returned to Acadieville where he met and married his wife Irene LeBlanc and pursued his passion in cars by working as an auto body repairman until his early retirement due to an injury.
He spent the remainder of his long life living peacefully with his wife in his home in Acadieville, less than 10-miles away from the family farm, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Acadian forest he loved.
We, who were lucky enough to know him, will never forget his example as we too grow into our old age. We can only ever hope to grow up to be half the man watching over us now.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the Salon «La Colombe» 11325, Highway 126, Rogersville, Wednesday, April 3rd at 7 pm. A religious celebration will be held at the Salon ‘La Colombe of Rogersville, Thursday April 4th, at 4 pm.
Visiting hours: Wednesday, April 3rd, from 7pm to 9pm, and on Thursday April 4th, from 2 pm until the celebration.
