Constance L. “Connie”‘s Obituary
Connie L Bisson: November 24, 1932 – April 15, 2019
With her daughters, Corinne and Jacquie by her side, Connie Bisson (nee Welch), age 86, died peacefully in her sleep the morning of April 15th, 2019 at Tideview Terrace in Digby, NS. Born and raised in Westport, Brier Island, NS, Connie lived her whole life there until January 2018, when she moved into Tideview Terrace, Digby. Connie taught her children and most of her grandchildren to play crib, took many of them to bingo games when they visited, and enjoyed a feisty game of skip-bo with her friends at Super Seniors, where she held the office of President for many years. She was also a member of the Westport Baptist Church and belonged to the Rebekah Lodge. After her first husband passed away in 1975, Connie took over his position as Lightkeeper at Northern Point for two years, after which she worked as chaperone for the school students travelling across the ferry from Westport to Freeport. It is because of that position and the fact that most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren had to cross both Petite and Grand Passage to visit her, that she became known as “Great Grammie Two Ferries” to many of them. Connie is survived by her four daughters, Peggy Near (Ron), Corinne Titus (Rex), Juanita Thompson, Jacquie Pyne (Terry) and step-daughter, Sharon Kurschner (Bob); grandchildren, Nichole (Brad), Arron (Nicole), Wade (Eve), Brandi (Mike), Mandy, Mark (Laura), Shannon (Justin), Tiffany (Marc), Bradley, Joseph, Tyler, Joshua; 17 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson Cooper; sister, Lorraine Bezant; brothers, Pete Welch (Delores) and Philip Welch (Grace); sisters-in-law, Carol Welch and Beth Welch and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Lawrence and Gertrude (Thompson) Welch, Connie was predeceased by her husband, John Bisson; first husband, Richard (Dick) Thompson; stepson, Beau (Sheldon); grandson, Kyle; half-sister, Mackie Swift; brothers, Bill Welch and Glenn Welch. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 in the Westport Baptist Vestry with Rev. Rick Warner officiating. Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery, Westport. A reception for family and friends will follow the interment in the Westport Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Tideview Terrace, Digby, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home. 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
