Barbara Matthews Copp
Barbara Matthews Copp, of The
Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, passed away peacefully at her residence
on Friday, April 5, 2019.
Barbara was born May 2, 1936
to Randolph and Clair (Matthews) Copp of Moncton,
NB.
Graduating from Moncton High
in 1953, Barbara went on to receive her BA in 1960 and her B-ED in
1961 from Mount Allison
University.
She went on to receive her
diploma in Christian Education from Emmanuel College at Victoria
University and was made a Deaconess in 1963 by the Moncton Presbytery.
From 1964-1967, she taught at EWHA Women’s University in
Seoul, South Korea.
On returning to Canada, she
received her MA from Rochester Divinity School in
1968.
Barbara joined the YWCA in
1968 first as Program Director and then as Executive Director in
various cities. In March of 1988, Barb began work at the General
Council Office of the United Church of Canada in Toronto, as secretary
for Management and Personnel until her retirement to her cottage in
Pointe-du-Chene, NB. She remained busy, however, taking on the Charge
as Minister of the Zion United Church in McKee’s Mills for a
number of years. She also served on the Senate and the Board of
Regents of Mount Allison University. Also, at that time, she served on
the Chignecto Presbytery for the United
Church.
Barbara will be sadly missed
by her brother, Donald (Patricia) of Riverview; nieces, Karin (Dan) of
Moncton and Catherine of Riverview; nephew, Stephen (Sharon) of
Eastern Passage, NS and grand nephew, Aiden as well as many friends
and extended family.
In addition to her parents,
she was predeceased by her sister, Marion in
1985.
Visitation at Fergusons
Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Monday from
7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Service to celebrate and honour Barbara’s
life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April
9, 2019 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Dr. Douglas MacEachern officiating.
Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service.
Interment will be held in Elmwood
Cemetery.
