Obituary for

Anita Rappaport (Holzman)
August 27, 1935 – March 30, 2019
Anita Rappaport, age 83, passed away on Saturday, March 30th, 2019 at Stirling Park Retirement Community in Ottawa. Anita was predeceased by her sister, Estelle Backman, who passed on February 17, 2019, only a few weeks before.
Anita was born in Montreal on August 27, 1935 to Fanny Marks, who immigrated from Latvia and Albert Holzman, who immigrated from Poland.
Anita attended Baron Byng High School in Montreal. Anita graduated from McGill University with a science degree (major in biochemistry) and a Masters in library and information science. Anita began her career as a librarian at the Jewish General Hospital. After almost two years there, Anita accepted a position as Life Sciences Librarian at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Mass. Shortly after she moved to Boston she met her future husband, Benjamin Rappaport, and her commitment to remain in the United States became more long term. After the death of her husband, Anita returned to Canada with her two children to join her family in Montreal. Anita moved to Ottawa after she was offered a librarian position with the National Research Council and continued to work for the public service until her retirement. One of her greatest pleasures in retirement was to participate in exercise classes and lectures at the JCC. She also loved attending family gatherings no matter what excuse was used to congregate.
Anita will be deeply missed but not forgotten by her daughter Aviva Sewart (Hugh Stewart) and her grandchildren Jessica Stewart and Natalie Stewart, her son, Michael Rappaport, her brother-in-law, Sydney Backman, her nephew David Backman (Chantal Backman) and niece Andrea Spanglet (Yaron Spanglet) and her special friend John Bathurst.
Her family would like to thank all the personal support workers, nurses and Dr. Natt who provided care for her during her time at the Stirling Park Retirement Community.
