Johanna Melis March 22nd 2019

Born December 3, 1929 in Heerlen, Holland – passed away March 22, 2019 at 3:00 a.m. in her 89th year. Johanna fought a courageous battle with total blindness and dementia for her final three years. Johanna’s amazing strength and never-ending dedication for the love of her family will go on forever. She will be missed immensely and be in our loving memory always. Johanna was very caring and compassionate and lived a life of service to others. She was a caregiver for many kids other than her own over the years and some of her fondest memories was her time spent volunteering at Anvil Island Bible Camp. Johanna was strong, independent, capable and always willing to lend a helping hand. Johanna is survived and loved by her four children – Loesje Jacob of Armstrong BC, Joanna Emmons of Vernon BC, Sonja Gaudet of Vernon BC, and Paul Melis of Langley BC – her loving husband Gerrit Heiter and many other friends and family members. Johanna is predeceased by her former husband and father of their four children, Abraham Melis. Johanna will always be loved and remembered as “Oma” by her seven grandchildren – Emily and Mason Jacob, Jordan Melis, Alysha and Colten Gaudet, Dylan and Jake Emmons and her great grandchild Ember. A traditional service for her family and friends will be held at Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services, 4417 29th Street Vernon BC, on Tuesday April 23 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Spinal Cord Injury BC in love and honour of Johanna’s daughter Sonja Gaudet, who sustained a spinal cord injury 21 years ago.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Johanna Melis March 22nd 2019..
