It is with sadness that the family of Herbert Ralph “Herb” Hamilton announce his passing on Monday, April 1, 2019, at University Hospital, London, Ontario. Herb was born on May 12, 1929 to Ralph and Alice (McDermott) Hamilton, in Calgary, Alberta. Herb had a lifelong passion for sports and despite the tragic effects of polio, he overcame all obstacles to play as many as he could. He was an avid golfer and played well into his senior years. Herb was predeceased by Eleanor, his loving wife of 50 years; his parents, Ralph and Alice; his brother, Wayne; and his granddaughter, Natel Jones. Herb is survived by his family – Rick (Rosalie) Jones, daughter Nicole (Jason) Jones de Rooy and their son, Rohan; Barbara (Dave) Freeman, their daughter Tracee (Peter) Nilsson and their daughter, Kristina, and daughter, Kimberlee Freeman; Bill (Nancy) Hamilton, their son, Tom (Ashley) Hamilton and their daughter, Emily, Heather (Jay) Simpson, and David (Hayley) Hamilton; and Herb’s sisters Jeanette Black and Mary Gubitz and their families. Herb was dedicated to his family and especially loved his role of Boompa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wants to thank Dr. McKenna and the staff of the 9th Floor at University Hospital for their kindness with Herb and the family these past weeks. In accordance with Herb’s wishes, the family will hold a gathering of remembrance and his ashes will be interred with El in Saskatoon, the city where they met and married. Herb was a good, kind and caring man who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
