Obituary of JEAN M. SMITH
JEAN M. SMITH (nee LUMSDEN)
February 7, 1934 – April 23, 2019
Suddenly, at the age of 85, with her family by her side, Jean passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital.
She is survived by her children Janine, Jim, Jeff (Shelley); grandchildren Amy (Julien) and Scott; sister Pat and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by the love of her life Jim, parents Bill and Eve Lumsden and brother Bill.
Jean’s early education was entirely at Lord Selkirk School. She graduated from Success Business College and worked at various schools in the River East School Division. She was a member of Wesley/lmmanuel United Church for over 60 years and sang in the choir for 55 years. She was also a member of the Kiwanis Ladies Auxiliary, Concordia Hospital Auxiliary and Middlechurch Auxiliary and volunteered for many community organizations. Jean enjoyed the Winnipeg Goldeyes, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. In addition, she enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and around the world with Jim and cruises with family members. She loved to knit Christmas stockings for family and friends.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held Wednesday May 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St. at Kimberly Ave. with Ha Na Park officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St., Winnipeg, MB R2K 2V4; or D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre, 730B Century St. Winnipeg, MB R3H 0M1 or to a charity of your choice.
