Buchanan (Borden), Bernadette Marie “Penny” – 71, Truro, passed away with family by her side on April 19, 2019. A loving grandmother, mother, sister and friend. She was kind and generous to the many people in her life. Penny took great delight in spending time with her three granddaughters. Penny’s family were the highlight of her life, and she loved her sons and grandchildren very much. Born in Halifax on July 10, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Sandy Borden. Penny is survived by her sons, Gerald (Marilyn) Smith, Stephen (Jenna) Burris; granddaughters, Lily and Morley Smith and Marett Burris; sisters, Dixie (Emmons) and Janice (Ralph), as well as several siblings, nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Michael Smith and brother, Frank Borden. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro on Sunday, April 28 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation.
