Layton Burris Thursday April 4th 2019

Burris, Layton Ray – 76, Hilden, in the wee hours of April 4, 2019 his final breath was taken with his loving family by his side at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. On April 3, 2019 Dad took his final journey down Morgan Road. Before doing so, Mom took him for a drive through Old Barns and paid his final visit to his cottage. Son of the late Sanford and Elizabeth (Webber) Burris. Layton is survived by his wife Ethel (Hobson), daughters, Sheila Davis (Stephen), Debbie Edwards (Bobby Pulsifer), Donna (Glenn) and Diane (Earl). Known as Papa to his grandchildren, Jason Edwards (Jill), Chelsea, Ashlee (Josh) and Kassie; great grandchildren, Dylan, Lily and Layla Edwards and Kaylie. He is also survived by his sister Edith McNutt; brother, James (Sharon) and several nieces and nephews. He is greatly missed by his fur “kids” Mickey and Minnie. Layton was predeceased by his sister, Audrey Hirtle and brothers, Lewis, Douglas and Donald. Layton worked for the Department of Highways and retired from Stansfield’s after 33 years. Mom gave him tender loving care through their 60 plus years together, right until the end. He thoroughly enjoyed life to the fullest, hunting, fishing, snow shoeing, swimming and roaming the roads of Colchester County. He never stopped, loved to tinker with anything, always trying to make something different out of it. Much like a child, Layton loved his toys. He also enjoyed four wheeling, motor cycling, his homemade beer and Goslings rum or as he called it, “Gooselings”. A special mention to the milk truck driver, Ray Smith, who always took the time to honk the horn or drop in for a visit. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 9 from 6 – 8 pm. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 10 at 2 pm both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Interment will take place at a later time. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team, namely, Lisa Weatherbee, Dr. Henderson, Dr. Farrell, the entire VON team, Dr. Slipp, EHS, CEHHC emergency, surgical/medical teams and the many others that helped him through his journey. Donations in Layton’s memory may be made to the VON, CEHHC Palliative Care or charity of choice. Live webcasting of the service will begin at 1:58 pm (Atlantic Time) and is available along with condolences at: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
