On March 16, 2019 Winnie passed from this life into the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
She is survived by Ray, her devoted husband of 64 years; Daughter Theresa (Bob), Son Murray; Grandchildren Amanda (Rob), Rosalie, Eric (Jenna), Dean (Kim) & Cody; Great-Grandchildren Brent & Austin; Sisters Esther, Audrey & Katherine; Sister-in-law Ronnie; Brothers-in-law Jack (Mary Anne) & Jim (Dianne).
She was predeceased by Daughter Rebecca; Son Graham; Sisters Margaret, Anita, Pearl and Sibyl; Brothers Weldrick, Albert, Orville, & Bob.
Winnie was born June 19, 1930, the tenth of twelve children born to Herb and Hannah Walter. She grew up in various small farming communities until the family settled in Sundre. She met Ray while working as a switchboard operator for A.G.T. and Ray was working as a lineman. After getting married in 1954 they moved to Calgary and started a family. They relocated to Leduc and remained there for over twenty-five years.
After retiring they designed and built a cabin at Sylvan Lake. Winnie was not a stranger to hard work, being raised on a farm milking cows by hand, stoking hay, and could be found with hammer and nails, paint brush and work clothes right up to 72 years old when she and Ray installed siding on a garage.
They enjoyed the years they had at the cabin, especially when the grandkids came to visit. Amanda and Rosalie remember the old cabin, hauling water by pail, the wood stove, bathing in a pink tub in the kitchen, and the toaster that ejected the toast into midair. Many days were spent helping gramma in the kitchen and playing board games. Winnie will be remembered for her baking, especially her cinnamon buns, brown bread, buns, pies, and cookies. She enjoyed playing the organ or guitar and singing hymns. She lived out her faith in her daily life, and was known for her integrity and willingness to help others.
