Walter Tokar
February 21, 1933 – March 1, 2019
With his beloved Marianne, wife of 20 years at his side at the St. Boniface Hospital, Walter passed away after a few weeks of deteriorating health. He is survived by Marianne, his sons Wayne (Sharon), Howard (Debra), and Jim (Jacque) as well as his grandchildren Ashley, Kyle, Kayla, Christopher, Jennifer, Michael, Rebecca, Jacob, and great grandchildren Reid, Rowan, Ally, and Aubrey. Also left to mourn his passing are step daughters Kathy (Kurt) and Natalie (Ron) along with grandchildren Payton and Delaney. Walter is survived by brother Julian (Liz) Tokariwski, sisters-in-law Kay Tokarwski, Eleonore (David) Hamilton, Johanna (Gerry) Green and brother-in-law Bert McNab. He was predeceased by his parents Carl and Julia Tokariwski, brother Bob Tokar, brother Mike Tokarwski, and sister Alice Worbeck.
Walter was born in Wayne, AB in 1933 and lived in Bissett, MB as a child where he fell in love with Eastern Manitoba before later moving to Winnipeg.
He worked many years for the MLCC as an Assistant Manager and this is where he met Marianne. He bought his home in Great Falls, planning for his retirement there. He loved this country home where he enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, and hiking.
Walter also enjoyed camping in his younger years and travelled frequently during his retirement with Marianne. Together they took trips to Portugal and Italy and they enjoyed many southern destinations but Mexico was their favourite. Walter enjoyed volunteering as Treasurer and later as Secretary at Model Forest and attended Pinawa Christian Fellowship with Marianne.
Walter went into personal care last April at Meadowood Manor. He enjoyed its location on the Seine River and often sat outside with Marianne in the warmer months. Thank you to the nurses and staff at Meadowood Manor for the excellent care. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses in the ICU at St. Boniface Hospital.
The funeral service will be Monday, March 11 at 11:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame. Pastor Dave Holland and Rev. Kathy Koop will lead the service.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
