Stanley’s Obituary
Passed away peacefully at Summit Place, Owen Sound, Thursday, March 7, 2019. Stanley William Baker of Markdale in his 91st year. Beloved husband of the late Essel Baker (Hastie). Dear father of Gail McCauley and her husband Terry of Markdale. Cherished grandpa of Erin Wasylnchuk (Justin) of Port Elgin & Sheila McCauley of London. Special great-grandpa of Bryce Wasylnchuk. Sadly missed by brother Alex Baker (Pat) of Markdale. Stan will be remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by sister Marie Schope, brother-in-law Fred Schope and sister-in-law Norma Baker.
Stan was born in Glenelg Township on November 18, 1928, eldest son to Waudby Mark & Katherine (Cook) Baker. After graduating from Townsend Lake School House, he spent some time working on the home farm, then at age 16 he bought a truck and started his own business ventures – livestock, logging, a trucking business, snowplowing and road superintendent for the Township of Glenelg. Stan served his community as Mayor and Reeve of Markdale and Warden of Grey County; he volunteered on the Police Board, Markdale Hospital Board and Annesley United Church Board. He was a member of Hiram Lodge #490, the Royal Canadian Legion, and past president of the Rotary Club of Markdale. Stan and Essel found time for travel and socializing with friends and family; there were hobbies and sports – hunting, curling, and flying his airplane. Stan loved his family, his pets, and his community, he worked and volunteered tirelessly – enjoying every aspect of life.
Friends may call at the May Funeral Home, Markdale, on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Annesley United Church, 82 Toronto St. North, Markdale, Monday, March 11, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Spring interment in Markdale Cemetery.
