December 24, 1940 – March 11, 2019
Died peacefully, with loving family at her side, at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital on Monday March 11, 2019. Sonja Smith, of Picton, formerly of Prinyers Cove and Toronto, at the age of 78. Beloved wife of Jim Smith. Loved mother of Michelle and her husband Mike Scott of Oshawa, Jeffery Futerman of Oshawa, and Jason Smith of Merritt, BC and step-mother of Lesley and her husband Wade Russell of Burlington and Steven Smith and his partner Angela of Hillier. Grandmother of eleven and great-grandmother of seven. Remembered by Jerry Boudreau and Darcy Lee. Sonja enjoyed sailing and skiing and was an enthusiastic member of the “QE II Transatlantic Cruising Club”. After retirement she also inspired others by continuing her education, going to and obtaining her Grade 13 at P.E.C.I. before attending Queen’s University. A graveside service will be held on Friday March 15th at 1 p.m. at Thornton Cemetery, 1200 Thornton Street North, Oshawa. If desired, donations in Sonja’s memory may be made to PECM Hospital Foundation or the Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to the Whattam Funeral Home, 33 Main Street, Picton.
