Ronald Aubrey
“Fibber” Canning, passed away peacefully at
the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, March 7, 2019,
after a lengthy and courageous battle with COPD, with his partner
Sharon and daughter Wanda by his side. Born in Parrsboro,
NS, on September 3, 1941, Fibber was the eldest son of the late Percy
and Mamie (Henwood) Canning.
Fibber retired in 2006. He
truly was a “Jack of all trades”. He began working
at age fourteen, and his careers including iron working, welding, and
autobody repairs. He was a licensed mechanic and
millwright. He was most proud of building and running a very
successful excavation company.
He had a life long love of singing and
playing the guitar. He was so honoured and proud to be
accepted by his musical family. He played in several house
bands and volunteered at care centres and festivals as a way to give
back to his communities. Music and his musical family were
his saving grace. it also brought him together with his
soulmate and singing partner, Sharon.
Fibber will be dearly missed by his
fiance and life partner, Sharon Langille, Warren; his beloved children
whom he loved unconditionally, Wanda (Chris) Legere, Burnaby, BC,
Ronald (Gwen Ruggles) Canning Jr., Halifax, NS, and William Canning,
Calgary, AB; their mother, Carol Canning, Calgary, AB; grandchildren,
Christopher (Michele) Legere, Jennifer (Nathan) Yadlowski, Katie
Legere, Ashley Kennedy, Travis Kennedy, Kyle Harrison, Bradley
Harrison, Johnathan Morrison, Benjamin Morrison, Mary Ellen Morrison;
great grandchildren, Olivia Yadlowski, Augustus Yadlowski; Sharon’s
children, Brian (Colleen) Langille and Alicia Langille, and
grandchildren, Brailey and Hannah; two sisters, Joan (David) Blue and
Lola (Eric) Melanson, as well as numerous nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by a brother, Arthur, a sister, Patricia, and a brother-in-law, Arlie
Canning.
Arrangements are under the care and
guidance of the Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst
(902-667-8777). A memorial service in honour of Fibber’s
life will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 1:30 pm with a
reception and musical tribute to follow at the hall of the Trinity St.
Stephen’s United Church, Amherst. Interment to take place at
a later date.
Donations in memory of Fibber may be
made to the Canadian Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s
choice.
