Sharp, Robert (Bob) died peacefully at Regina, Saskatchewan on March 3, 2019 at age 97 and 6 months. He was born on August 22, 1921 in Holywell, Northumberland, England. He was predeceased by his wife Bessie in 1966; wife Margaret in 1996; and granddaughter Brittany Anna Marie, age 8 months in 1986.
Bob is survived by his loving son Ivan (Bonnie); grandson Ryan (Chatelle), Isaac and Iralynn, and grandson Steven (Biet), Helix, Hayden, Havoc, and Hinley. He also leaves his sisters Betty Chapman, Marjorie Grassie, and Thelma Thorley-Smith (Roy) and their families; former wife Mary Olert; and many loving nephews, nieces, and close friends.
After Dad’s primary education was completed in England, he began working at the age of fourteen. In 1941 he joined the Royal Air Force and served during World War II in England, North Africa, and Europe. After the war ended, he was stationed in Palestine in 1946.
Bob immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his first wife Bessie and son Ivan. He was employed with the Saskatchewan Provincial Government from 1958 until he took early retirement in the mid 1970’s. During that time, he completed his Grade XII by correspondence and a Business Certificate at the U of R. Dad returned to England where he re-entered into the workforce at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne until he retired in 1986.
Bob returned to Canada in 1987 and spent time travelling extensively with Margaret until her death. He volunteered at the Alan Blair Cancer Centre. He also continued to travel far and wide as long as he was able.
Dad came from a family of coal miners and worked for the National Coal Board prior to leaving England. He retained a life-long interest for the coal mining industry. This transpired into a treasured collection of mining lamps and Identification discs. He so enjoyed visiting coal mining areas in Canada from B.C to Nova Scotia along with parts of the USA.
Robert, Bob, Dad, Grandpa, GGP, we love you and you will be greatly missed by your loving family and others whose lives you touched.
At Dad’s request there will be no funeral service. Flowers most gratefully declined. Donations may be made, in Bob’s memory, to the Alan Blair Cancer Centre or the charity of your choice.
“I want no sadness in my death only joy!”
