Richard Rogers Vaughan
1945-2019
It is with deep sadness that the family of Rick Vaughan
announces his peaceful passing from this life on March 17, 2019 at
Shannex Fredericton. A life long resident of Fredericton, NB, Rick was
the son of the late William and Verna Vaughan (Rogers).
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Dorothy
Vaughan and his loving daughter Allyson Vaughan Williams (Ted) of
Cascais, Portugal and his very special granddaughter Ella and step-son
Dr. David Dorton (Connie) & grandchildren Will, Lilly and Zach
of Lutz Florida. He is survived by his brother Steve (Jayne)
of Singhampton, ON and his sisters Alexa “Pex” Legris (Joe)
of Renfrew, ON and Kathleen Zwicker of Fredericton, NB and
sisters-in-law Martina Vaughan of Kingston, NS and Ruth Vaughan
(Gilles) of Moncton, NB and Allyson’s mother Barb Prince
(Ken) of Fredericton, NB. Rick is also survived by his brothers-in-law
Jim Appleton (Heather) and Jeff Appleton (Shelley) and their families.
He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins
with whom he had a special relationship.
Rick held a special place in his heart for his two
predeceased brothers Kenny and Rod Vaughan and nephew Nelson
Vaughan.
While Rick experienced health challenges beginning in the
early seventies that persisted throughout his life, he dealt with each
with patience, courage and a steadfast determination to participate
fully in life with his family and with the community. Rick was a
long-time member of the Kinsmen Club of Nashwaaksis and was a
supporter of the NB Fish and Game Association. Rick rarely missed an
event and his camera was a constant companion whether it was a Kinsmen
dinner, a hockey game, a basketball or volleyball game or a family
gathering at the beloved “Vaughan Family Camp” on the
South-West Branch of the Miramichi River.
Rick took special pride in the many accomplishments and
travels of his daughter Allyson and always looked forward to receiving
news from “Allyson” wherever she was at that moment. He and
Dorothy enjoyed numerous trips to visit with Allyson in the US and
Europe. Each trip produced many good memories and of course a pile of
pictures.
Of all the places Rick travelled his favourite place was
always the “Vaughan Family Camp” particularly when brother
Steve and nephews were about. Whether he was at the camp and
part of the group or absent, Rick enjoyed hearing about the camp and
knowing that the camp was being used almost as much as being there. He
was generous in seeing that people had access to the camp when needed.
Always willing to stop and talk, have a coffee, lend a needed tool to
a friend, Rick was kind hearted and generous to those he met and
knew.
The family is particularly grateful for the care that Rick
has received from many, particularly Marie Murphy who visited and
supported Rick in his care at both Windsor Court and Shannex
Fredericton over the past 6 years. The family expresses
their appreciation to Drs. Hart, Beland, K Stymiest and the staff at
the Chalmers Hospital and to Dr. Kolyvas and staff at the Saint John
Neuro Department for the professional care they provided Rick over
many years. To the staff at Windsor Court and Frederick Hall Shannex
the family says a sincere “Thank you” to each one for their
kind and compassionate care.
At Rick’s request there will be no visitation or
funeral. The family looks forward to a private celebration of
Rick’s life at a later date. Interment will take place later
in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. For those who wish to remember Rick
a gift to the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Miramichi Salmon
Association Inc. or a charity of donors’ choice would be
appreciated.
