Mme Phyllis Laura Mass Carter nee Rubin 1936 • 2019

Phyllis passed away on March 10th, 2019 following a 25-year battle with cancer, at the Palliative Care unit of the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. Phyllis was previously married to Max Israel Mass and was the widow of Cliff Carter. She is survived by her loving family, daughter Shelley Mass Thériault (René), granddaughter Melinda Theriault, sister Sheila Rubin Bruman (Bernard), nieces Tamara Rubin Kingsbury and Debra Bruman, and step-children Danielle, Kim and Mark Carter. She was predeceased by her parents George Rubin and Leonie Feldman Rubin and by her brother Stephen Rubin (Evelyn). Phyllis was a lifelong fighter against injustices in her own life and others’. She loved her family and she loved art, music, literature, politics and religion, languages and cultures, animals, Cape Cod, Expo ’67 and dinner at Chenoy’s.
We miss her already.
Thank-you to everyone who cared about her and helped her over the years ; you were her family too. A private memorial will be held in the coming weeks for Phyllis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or an Animal Welfare organization of your choice.
