Mildred “Millie” Giffin
1924-2019
Mildred “Millie”
Giffin, age 94 of Amherst formerly of Dartmouth, passed
away peacefully Thursday March 14, 2019 with
family by her side. Born in Newport Station she was a daughter of the
late Frederick & Lena (Pemberton) Riley.
For a number of years, Millie lived in
Hantsport operating her own hairdressing business moving to Dartmouth
in 1975. She maintained close contact with friends left behind-her
July 1st visits were always welcomed and
anticipated! In Dartmouth she worked at NSCC Akerley Campus cafeteria
retiring in 1989. Many of the Food Service students kept in touch long
after her retirement. Millie will be remembered for her sense of
humour, love of music, dancing, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles
and working on the weekly Halifax Herald Lexicon Puzzle. She loved
doing crafts especially plastic canvas. Millie enjoyed watching
curling, skating and spending time with her friends. She was a long
time Feline Bowling League member and especially loved watching
Jeopardy and “The Blue Jays” with her special
friend/landlady of 39 years Melba. Millie loved being Nanny to her
grand and great-grand kids and was always happy for a
visit.
Millie will be sadly missed by her son
Larry and his wife Glenna(Kennedy), grandchildren Shawn(Irene),
Sheri(Dan) Green, Kim(Nick) and Lori(Chris) Nicholls. Great-Grand
grandchildren Karter, Kennedy, Dale, Madelyn, Vaughan, Amelia and
Nora, sisters Eileen(Karl) Saunders, Marlene Starrett, brother-in-law
John Brownrigg and sister-in-law Pat Giffin, numerous nieces and
nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased
by brothers Clarence, Ralph, George(WW2), Harry, sisters Lillian,
Laura, Jean, Ella, Vera, Lorraine and great-grandson Leo and former
spouse Olliver
Special thanks to the staff at
