It is with heavy hearts, the family of Merleen Christine (Allan) Smith, loving wife of the late Donald Smith of Hampton, NB, announces her passing which occurred on Wednesday March 20, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. Born 1949 in Anagance, NB, she was the daughter of the late Merle and Eileen (Black) Allan. In her earlier years, Merleen worked for 12yrs with NBTel followed by several years of in home child care and a few years with Marysview Seniors Facility in Hampton. She was an active member of Lions Clubs International beginning with the Hampton Lioness Club followed by many years with the Pickwauket Lions Club. Merleen was known to light up a room with her beautiful smile.
Merleen will be greatly missed by her daughters Michele (Greg) Gillis and Bonnie (Mark) Kiervin. Also by her brothers Ronald Allan and Lawrence (Theresa) Allan, her grandchildren Marissa Gillis (Adam Herrit), Amy Gillis, Julia Kiervin, Zoe Kiervin and Bella Kiervin, a great-grandson Carter Herritt and many cousins, nieces, nephews as well as her dog, Gracie. In addition to her parents and husband Donald, she was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Delcia Allan.
She will be resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday March 24, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a Lions Dedication at 5pm on Sunday. The Funeral Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday March 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. Interment to take place in Anagance Cemetery at a later date. The family would appreciate donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada or the SJRH Palliative Care Unit.
