Marguerite passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 8, 2019, at her home in Tower Hill, NB. She was born on January 12, 1930, daughter to William McKenzie and Ethel Beatrice (Brown) Cameron. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Pauline Messer (Bob) and Helen Watson (Ted), her first husband Kenneth Joseph Mitchell and her second husband John Giddens.
Marguerite is survived by her sons, Donald Brian Mitchell (Judy) of Tower Hill, NB. and Blair Kenneth Mitchell (Lise Lamirande) of Stony Plain, AB., her grandchildren: David Mitchell (Jess) of Tower Hill, NB., Kyle Mitchell and Tanis Mitchell, both of Edmonton, AB., Josh Mitchell of Edmonton, AB. and Lindsay Lamirande of Fort McMurray, AB. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Bernice Giddens of St. Stephen, NB. and Ruth Mitchell of Stittsville, ON., brother-in-law, Morton Mitchell (Audrey) of St. Andrews, NB. as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marguerite was active as a member of the St. Stephen Chapter, No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star and received her 65-year pin in 2017. She was also a life member of the Tower Hill Enterprise Women’s Institute and the Knox United Church U.C.W. She was known as “Gete” to her nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren called her the “Best Cooker in Tower Hill.” In recent years, she was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and enjoyed watching their ballgames on TV.
Marguerite’s family will be forever grateful to the Extra-Mural nurses, Home Support caregivers, neighbour Steaven Hovey and hairdresser Linda Groom, who all made it possible for Marguerite to live out her final years at her beloved family home on Tower Hill.
Funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, NB. on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 2 PM with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 7-9 PM and on Thursday prior to the service from 1-2 PM.
