With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on March 3rd, 2019.
Colleen (Lorimer) Lewis was born in Berwyn, AB but would eventually be a transplant back to Alberta from Saskatchewan where she spoke often of the family farm and growing up surrounded by her siblings in Outlook, SK. Born a Lorimer she had the challenge of losing her father as an infant but was raised a Hudec by her mother Eileen and the man she would affectionately call Daddy Stan.
She would travel and call Edmonton, AB home where she met the man who would be her husband of 38 years, Gary, have three boys Chris, Jeff and Ryan while building an extended family with Gary’s kids Bob, Dan, Corinne, Tom and Judy. Family was Colleen’s pride and joy and without a doubt her life’s dedication. She was the first to volunteer, the loudest at sporting events and won numerous awards for her dedication to her children’s lives. She will always be remembered as the parent and grandparent who could be counted on, regardless of the ask or the time required.
Colleen was a hard worker holding jobs at Zellers and Fanny’s Fabrics in Edmonton, AB. After moving to Calgary, AB in 1986 her friendships grew and she found her stride and passion working with the great team at AGT and Telus where she was a leader and a friend to many.
After the passing of Gary, Colleen started a new chapter moving to Crescent Valley near Nelson, BC to be closer to son Ryan and her grandchildren in the Kootenays. She built great friendships, bowled with friends, hiked the hills and found a peace inspired by nature. Nelson made her the happiest she had been in her adult life, a testament to the power of the Valley.
Those left who felt Colleen’s constant love are sons Chris (Michelle), Jeff (Dawn) and Ryan (Christena), stepchildren Dan (Gladys), Corinne (John), Tom (Marney), and Judy (Tom), twenty-one grandchildren; sisters Lois, Donna and Diane and brother Errol. Colleen was predeceased by her husband, Gary, parents and stepson Bob.
In lieu of flowers please make donations directly to Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation.
Our thanks to the nurses and staff of the Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson, you are all amazing.
