Age 96, died peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2019 in the QE II Hospital, Halifax. Born in Bay Roberts, NL on November 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James Allan and Salome (Snow) Thompson. She came from Newfoundland to Canada to serve in the CWAC during WWII. She worked at Maritime Tel & Tel as a telephone operator for a brief period where she met her husband. She was affectionately known as “Shorty” to her immediate family members and close friends. On August 17 th , 1947 she married her loving husband George and became a homemaker and devoted mother. Her favourite pastime was knitting woolen hats and mitts. She spent the remainder of her life in the Halifax and Bedford area. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, George Munro. She will be sadly missed by her son Ross (Henrietta) and daughter Nancy (Wayne) of Bedford. She is survived by her brother Eric. She was predeceased by her sisters Vera, Sarah, Anne, Phyliss and brothers Lloyd and Jack. She is survived by her grandchildren Chris, Callie, Allison and Rachel, her great-grandchildren Chelsey, Dominic, Elliot and Lucas. She was pre-deceased by her great grand-daughter Savanna.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T. K. Barnard Funeral Home. The celebration of her life and interment will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army in the memory of Lavinia Munro.
