Obituary for
Kathleen Mary Jordan (Campbell)
Peacefully in her sleep at the age of 81 after a rich and meaningful life. Daughter of the late Stella (St. Jacques) and Ernest Campbell. She is pre-deceased by her cherished husband of 47 years, William (Bill) Jordan, and brothers Bernard and Robert Campbell. Survived by her youngest brother Michael (Mimi) Campbell of Winchester, ON. Most beloved mother to Geoffrey (Meredith) of Toronto, Christopher of Ottawa, and Suzanne (Paul) Tubb of Halifax. Adoring Grammie Kate to Avery, Teighan, Jameson and Gibson. Aunt, God-mother, cousin, and friend to many. A lifetime resident of Ottawa, she began her studies at St. Patrick’s College, and never stopped learning. A woman of many letters: B.Comm, B. Ed, M.Ed, and Certified Teacher of the Blind, she began her career teaching Math and Phys Ed (1960 – 1972) holding positions at Glebe Collegiate Institute and Highland Park High School, both in Ottawa; and Catholic Central High School in London, ON. After starting a family, she left the traditional classroom and harnessed her experience as an educator and her natural coaching skills, dedicating the remainder of her life to helping others. An impassioned and relentless advocate for disability rights, accessibility and inclusion, she was highly and widely respected for her significant contributions to social justice. Over 30+ years, she sat on various boards and provided advice and guidance to public, private and non-profit sector organizations; as well as local, provincial and federal governments including the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal Panel, Easter Seals, the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre, the Special Education Advisory Committee for the Ottawa Carleton Separate School Board, Views for the Visually Impaired and Family Alliance Ontario, to name but a few. Perhaps more significant, however, was the support and guidance she provided to individuals and families. Highly intelligent, confident, and resilient, she gave of her whole self in every aspect of her life. Wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, she was infinitely generous and tackled every challenge life handed her with faith, courage and an unwavering positive attitude. She will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren, and the hundreds of people whose lives she touched. Funeral and Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church located at 194 Fourth Avenue in Ottawa at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Percy Street. There is no parking lot, but there is on-street parking in the area. For those people who have mobility issues, there is an accessible entrance on Fourth Ave., with an elevator to the church proper. A reception will also be held at the church following the mass.
