It is with heavy hearts the family of Joseph Fitzgerald, loving husband of Margaret “Peggy” Joyce (Colwell) Fitzgerald announces his passing which occurred on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB on August 26, 1938 he was the son of the late Edmund and Helen (Corkery) Fitzgerald.
Joe had received his bachelor of science degree from St. Francis Xavier University, his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Windsor, Ontario and his bachelor of education degree from UNB. He was employed with Waddell-Leore Travel Agency and worked for the Saint John School Board as a Teacher for many years. He was very active in St. Peter’s Church and was a lector for 50 years. He loved travelling, cooking and entertaining.
In addition to his loving wife Peggy, he is survived by his children Susan Fitzgerald and Robert Fitzgerald (Kayla); granddaughter Rowan; brothers Rev. William Fitzgerald C.S.s.R. and Paul Fitzgerald (Carole); nephew Brian Fitzgerald (Abby); several cousins and many friends.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Tuesday, March 5 from 2 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Assumption Church on Wednesday, March 6 at 12 noon. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in memory of Joe may be made to Romero House Soup Kitchen, Bobby’s Hospice, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
