DR. JOSE LAM
Dr. Jose Lam, professor with the Grenfell Business Administration program, was much beloved, widely known as an eternally positive and deeply caring teacher, researcher and friend, as is evident by the outpouring of love and support from his students, colleagues, and wider community following his passing.
His contributions have been immense since starting at Grenfell Campus in 2009. He was a compassionate teacher at Grenfell and beyond, spending countless hours with students, encouraging their own skills and curiosities. He was a prominent and active supporter of the Navigate Entrepreneurship Centre, mentoring students and entrepreneurs, alike. A proud researcher, Jose truly shined when he was able to share his passion for entrepreneurship and economic and community development. He loved the social connections created by the Films from Away series that he helped to sustain, his Friday Night Supper Club, and he had a special place in his heart for our international students, as he felt he learned as much from them as they might have from him. A champion for internationalization, Jose made valuable research and recruitment connections with universities in Costa Rica, India, and elsewhere.
Perhaps above all else, Jose was a truly fine colleague and friend; always with an idea or project to be explored, a kind word of encouragement, and a twinkle in his eye; he will be sorely missed, but forever and lovingly remembered at Grenfell Campus.
Dr. Lam earned a BSc. From the University of British Columbia, an MSc. from McGill and a PhD from Concordia University Dr. Lam’s research interests were in the field of entrepreneurship and its role in economic and community development including traits of successful entrepreneurs, displays of creativity and innovation in entrepreneurs, influencers on the success of business, issues facing family business and the role of social entrepreneurship in economic development.
A celebration of the life of Dr. Jose Lam will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019, Arts and Science atrium at 2: 00 pm.
