Gerald “Jerry” Lutz
1941-2019
We are saddened to announce the passing of Gerald (Jerry) Richard Lutz on March 9, 2019 at the age of 77. Jerry was born November 1, 1941 in Stony Plain, Alberta to Arthur & Erna Lutz. He was the eldest of 5 children.
Jerry leaves his loving wife of 54 years Chris Lutz; his children Terry, Shane (RaDell) and Cindy (Steve); his grandchildren Melissa, Brendan, Carter, Mya, Sheldon & Raelyne. His siblings Dwight (Bev), Howard, Allan, and Carol (George) Rodgers.
In 1963 Jerry met Christine Odynak and they were married in June of 1965. Then in 1966 they were blessed with a son Terry; in 1969 another son Shane, and finally to complete their family a daughter, Cindy in 1973.
Jerry always seemed to find trouble as a child, the stories that he told us almost seemed unbelievable…until we looked at Chris or one of his siblings and they would be sitting there nodding their heads, confirming it was accurate. He was always laughing when he told these tales, sometimes so much, he had a hard time finishing the story.
Jerry was a hard worker and loyal to Assinger Concrete for more years than we can count. He worked long hours but always found time for his family, including all the kid’s friends that were constantly at the house, but Chris and Jerry didn’t mind; they just needed a head count for supper.
From the time the kids were small they would pile into the truck and drive to Baptiste Lake. It was one of the main gathering points for their friends and family and all were welcome. There are so many stories and memories from the lake that will be cherished. Jerry was one of the most welcoming people you had ever met. Whether you met him at home in Stony Plain, at work, or at the lake, he always invited you to sit down for a visit.
Jerry and Chris retired to Baptiste Lake in 2017 where they got to spend lots of time with their children and grandchildren, which always put a smile on his face.
The service will be held in Stony Plain at the United Church on March 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the University Hospital Foundation, Brain Centre Campaign, which can be found on-line at universityhospitalfoundation.ab.ca/braincentre/home
