1937-2019
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gerald Hanson
Hawkes announces his passing on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Oromocto
Public Hospital.
Born in Coal Creek, NB, he was the son of the late Arthur and
Mayme (Hawkes) Hawkes. Gerald graduated from Teacher’s
College and UNB with a BA, BEd and MEd. He taught at Chipman High
School, Harold Peterson Jr. High and Waasis Rd Jr. High – Oromocto. He
served on the Jr. and Sr. High English Committees as well as other
professional duties. A true hockey fan, he managed hockey teams for
the Oromocto Hockey Association for 6 years. In his retirement, he
enjoyed travelling, camping, summers at the lake and cheering for the
Toronto Maple Leafs.
Gerald is survived by his wife Mary (Johnson); sons Andrew
(Anna Marie), Richard (DeAnne) and Nevil; special son Tom
Desgroselliers (Shellie); granddaughters Madelyn and Georgia; sisters
Marjorie Brown (Phillip), Judi Desjardins (Ken) and Wendy Russell
(Ron) and a brother Borden (Kelly).
As per his request, there will be no funeral service. A
visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Saturday, March 9,
2019 from 1-4 PM. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations
in Gerald’s memory can be made to the Oromocto SPCA or to
the charity of the donor’s choice.
