ERIKA KSZYK
Erika Kszyk passed away on March 25, 2019, at Holy Family Home, aged 97 years.
Erika was born in Lusading, Czechoslovakia. After the Second World War, she moved to England where she met and married Mike Kszyk, a Ukrainian émigré, and they had a daughter, Irene. A few years later, in 1953, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg.
Erika worked in various garment factories as a sewing machine operator, retiring at the age of 67. An accomplished seamstress, she continued to sew for herself and others long into her retirement. She worshipped at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, was part of their Women’s League and took part in the Seniors’ Club perogy making.
Several years after Mike’s death in 1992, she moved to Fred Douglas Lodge and became an active volunteer there. With the onset of dementia in 2014 she moved to Rosewood Supported Housing and to Holy Family Home in 2017. With her passing, she leaves behind her daughter and granddaughter, who both live in England.
Prayers will be said on Thursday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
