Elizabeth “Betty” Woodside
1924-2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betty
Woodside on February 28, 2019 at the age of 94. Betty was born on
December 8, 1924 in Fredericton. She is survived by daughters Connie
(Wendy), Allyson (Rae), sons Lee (Marilyn), Roy and Paul,
grandsons Scott (Terrie), Corey (Fiorello), great-grandson Santiago,
sisters-in-law Edythe Woodside, Shirley Sutherland (Wilf)
and several nieces and nephews.
Betty is the last surviving member of her family and was
predeceased by her husband of 60 years, George Woodside, her parents
Ted and Myrtle Burden and brothers Paul and George.
Mom graduated from Acadia University in 1946 with a BSC in
Home Economics. She was well known for her work at New Brunswick fairs
and exhibitions for judging home economics exhibits for a period
spanning seven decades.
Mom always made newcomers feel welcome and loved to give of
her time freely to many organizations including the Fredericton
Kinette Club and the Capital Winter Club. She was a member
of the Fredericton Home Economics Association, Celestial Chapter # 30
OES, Brunswick Street Baptist Church, and a 50-year volunteer with
Meals on Wheels.
In her 84th year, Mom joined the Stepping Stone Troubadours
and took up harmonica so that she could play gigs and entertain
“old folks “.
Mom will be remembered by all who knew her to be a gracious
woman with a great sense of humor who loved her family and friends
deeply.
The family would like to thank the compassionate
care given to Mom by the staff at York Care Centre.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. The
funeral will take place Wednesday, March 6th at 11:00 a.m. at
Brunswick Street Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Geldart
officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate
a donation to the Brunswick Street Baptist Church Building Fund, The
York Care Foundation, or any charity of the donor’s choice.
