Champion Nov. 1990 … April 1991. After 39 years in the workaday
world as a Banker, Salesman and Public Servant with Transport Canada
in Dartmouth, Saint John, Charlottetown and a return to Dartmouth; Don
and Marj retired in 1987 to Kentville to follow other interests: house
building of which there were a total of 6 and 2 renovations, family
history and genealogy. He researched the Harris name back to 1714, the
Wood name from 1642, and his in-laws names of MacLean back to 1758 and
Tattrie (Tetterey) from 1722. His research also contained many stories
of the ancestors. The resulting accounts provided each one of his
family their ancestral background of whence their ancestors came. Don
enjoyed painting. Some of his work sold in the Apple Bin Art Gallery
in the Valley Regional Hospital where he volunteered as well as in the
gift shop for 12 years. Other paintings are with family and friends as
part of his legacy. Don also sang tenor with the Dukes of Kent
Barbershop Chorus and played trombone with the New Horizons band at
Acadia University for 7 years. Don, his wife and son returned to PEI
in 2015 and renewed and enjoyed old friendships from earlier days.
Funeral will be held in The Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at
2:00 pm with Rev. Dewis Rector officiating, reception to follow.
Visitation from 1:00 … 1:50 pm. Family flowers only. Donation in
memory of Donald may be made to the QEH Hospital, Valley Regional
Hospital Kentville or the PEI Lung Association. Cremation will take
place with interment of ashes in Sherwood Cemetery at a later date.
