Anthony George Jessie Alan Rumbold
Anthony George Jessie Alan
Rumbold, 96, passed away March 18, 2019 at Forest Dale Home. He was
born July 8,1922 in Hertford, England. Son of Douglas and Sybil
Rumbold.
While he was attending Chillon
College in Switzerland, WWII began. He was too young to enlist. When
he was old enough, he could not get back to England so he rode his
bicycle across the France border to San Julien and joined the Marquis,
the French resistance. Later he enlisted with Britain and served in
the British Army as a member of the British Intelligence Corps. He
reported to Italy and Austria. He also served as part of the
denunciation of Nazis. He was a British delegate at the Geneva
Conference of 1954 on Indonesia.
He remained in Austria after
the war and became involved in the lumber industry. This eventually
brought him to New Brunswick where he served as Executive Director of
the Maritime Lumber Bureau until his
retirement.
Tony enjoyed reading,
woodworking, gardening, travelling, and scotch. He had a great passion
for hockey. He was involved with the Moncton Major Midgets and a great
fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He will be missed by his many
friends, in particular, Isabel Hicks, Bonny Steele and Ron Davis and
by his goddaughter, Caroline.
He was predeceased by his wife
Milena.
A special thank you to the
staff of Forest Dale Home for their excellent
care.
In honour of Tony’s wishes
there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment will be in Alderwood
Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to
Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton
