Alexander Lysiuk
May 24, 1924 – March 14, 2019
Alexander (Alex) Lysiuk, beloved husband of the late Jackie Lysiuk of Hyas, SK, passed away at Hyas, SK, on March 14, 2019, at the age of 94 years.
Alex was born on May 24, 1924, in Rohno, Ukrainie, to Zotik and Tina (Brodowski) Lysiuk. At the age of six years, he immigrated with his family to Canada, settling in the Goldbank School District, fourteen miles north of Stenen, SK. Alex attended school to grade eight. On a trial basis, at the age of sixteen years, Alex began working part time with the RM of Clayton, as they could not legally hire him until he turned eighteen. He quickly gained knowledge on the job and was able to operate and repair machinery. Being he was a tremendous asset to them, he was promptly hired and employed full time. Throughout the years, Alex received many awards, achievements and recognition for operating heavy equipment, repairing and road building.
Alex met Jacqueline McCullough north of The Pas, MB and the couple was united in marriage on December 12, 1953. In 1955, they relocated to Hyas, SK, and were blessed with four daughters: Linda, Vivian, Debra and Cynthia. While working full time for the RM, Alex also farmed one quarter and then added an additional half section of leased land. Many people praised him for his work ethic. He worked long, hard hours all his life but was never really quite ready for retirement. However, at the age of 86, Alex retired from working so he could care for Jackie as her health continued to decline. Alex would help anyone who asked and was graciously there for anyone who needed him.
He was an animal lover and had a soft spot for wildlife. He cared for stray dogs, cats, foxes, squirrels and birds in his elder years. As a younger man, he had tried his hand at hunting, but felt sorry for the wildlife and discovered hunting was not for him.
Alex enjoyed visiting with people. He like to play whist, pool, shuffleboard and watch television, especially game shows and animal series. He also enjoyed the cartoon, ‘The Flintstones,’ and would literally laugh out loud throughout each episode.
Through his strong work ethic, compassion, care, dedication, love and laughter, Alex most definitely left this world a better place and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, Zotik and Tina; his loving wife, Jackie; sisters, Alvina and Vera, and brothers, Bill, Fred and Peter.
He is survived by his daughters: Linda Yaremchuk (Svend Nielsen),
