Percy was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 65 years, Gwendolyn Mae Rescorl (2008). He was also predeceased by his sisters, Winnifred Wright, Frieda McGill, brother, Ron Rescorl and stepbrother, Cliff Rescorl. Beloved father of Florence Taylor of Jordan Station, Lynn (the late Fred-2013) Furs of Port Robinson, Rev. Susanne Rescorl of St. Catharines. Grandfather of Wendy Goodfield (Bob) of Welland, Shellie Fleming (Derryk) of St. Catharines, Jake Neufeld (Sandra) of Ridgeway, Trevor Neufeld of Niagara Falls. Great grandfather Allyssa and Lindsey Phelps of Welland, Lauren and William Fleming of St. Catharines, Cole Neufeld of St. Catharines. Special adopted grandfather and friend, Seynab Loyan of Welland. Percy is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Born in Penzance, Cornwall, England. Percy came to Canada with his family when he was four years old. Percy served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons and before the war, he rode with the RCD’s Musical Ride. They performed for the Princess Elizabeth. The Ride also performed in New York City and the horses were stabled in Central Park. While serving in France during WWII, he was wounded and it was more than two years before he returned home. Later Percy was awarded the Legion d’honneur of France. Percy was a Niagara-on-the-Lake Legion Member for over 80 years. Percy worked in Dorland’s Toy Factory in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and later as a pattern maker with English Electric in St. Catharines. After the factory moved to Toronto, Percy made patterns in his shop for the boat works in the Old Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. In 2010 he was nominated by the War Amputation Association and had the privilege of being an Olympic Torch Bearer in Niagara on the Lake.
Until recent years Percy was an avid gardener. He had an unending skill to repair and build many items for our home. Later, he enjoyed feeding the birds and animals. The family would like to thank Dr. Vivier, Simpson’s Pharmacy, War Amputations, Veteran Affairs and the many PSWs and nurses who cared for Dad so lovingly.
Percy’s family will receive friends at the MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent St., Niagara-on-the-Lake on Friday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
