It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Nancy Ayano Fukumoto of Hamilton on March 2, 2019 at the General Hospital at the age of 84. Adored mother to Michele Van Raay (Shawn) and Alyson Coppolella (Danny) and beloved grandmother to Maclean, Alex, Emily and Aidan. Predeceased by her husband of 20 years, Frank “Shin”, brothers Ken (Ruth), Harry and parents Yachiyo and Isamu. She will be dearly missed by sisters Yurie (Mas) Yoshikuni of Montreal and Mary (Tim) Oikawa of Milton as well as many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was an active volunteer at the Japanese Culture Centre and continued to play euchre there regularly. She shared her love for food by making sushi, mochi and strawberry tarts for countless occasions, family and friends. Throughout her more than 50 years as a hairdresser, Nancy spread her laughter and joy throughout Hamilton. As a proud grandmother, she was always the the number one fan of her grandkids at baseball, swimming, hockey and piano.
The family would like to express immense gratitude to the 4 West and CCU doctors and staff at the General Hospital for the great compassion and excellent care they provided Nancy.
Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home – “William J. Markey Chapel”, 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Tuesday from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel at Bay Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 11:00 am with Burial to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Hamilton.
For those who wish, memorial donations made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
