GEZINA “INA” ROELFINA SEGSTRO NEE KLUNDER
December 21, 1932 – February 10, 2019
Gezina “Ina” Roelfina Segstro Nee Klunder, passed away peacefully during the early morning of February 10, 2019, aged 86.
Ina is pre-deceased by her Dutch parents Jan and Agina Klunder, both teachers, and her sister Anje.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years Marcel; sisters, Jannie and Catharina; children, Ed (Elaine), Ron, Mark (Barb) and Majola (Larry); grandchildren, Matthew (Rachel) and Jeremy, Erin and Mike and their mother Judy, Megan and Katelyn, Scott (Genevieve), Andrew (Justine), Melissa (Danny) and James; great-grandchildren, Ezra, baby Vergara and baby Richardson; and countless others whom she had touched over the years with her loving, sweet nature.
Ina was born in Ambarawa, Indonesia, and the family of six lived a quiet life there until 1942 when the family endured World War II. They spent years of hardship in internment camps during which her father died in a camp in Burma. On February 10, 1946, following civil unrest in Indonesia and continued life in camps, Ina, her mother, and three sisters were liberated to return to Holland. Completing her education and training, Ina began her nursing career. In June of 1956, she immigrated to Canada and eventually Calgary where she met the love of her life, Marcel, and had their three sons. After a final move to Winnipeg in 1969, they soon adopted their daughter. Remaining in Winnipeg, Ina’s deep love of family extended to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the heart of the family.
Throughout her life, Ina had greatly blessed the lives of her family and friends. She was a kind-hearted, loving, and compassionate woman, who overcame tremendous obstacles to live a faithful life serving others and her dear Lord Jesus. Ina is cherished as a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who brought warmth to all whom she touched. Our hearts mourn at the loss of so precious a person, while our souls are comforted by the knowledge she rests in the warm embrace of our Lord and Saviour.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Ina touched are welcome to attend her Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with viewing at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place after the service at Historic Kildonan Church Cemetery, 2373 Main Street, with reception to follow at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. R3K 0Y1, info@wpgpet.ca or 204-832-7387, to celebrate Ina’s love for animals.
