Damon McCarthy
1956-2019
At Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph Hospital, Perth-Andover, March
26, 2019, Mr. Damon McCarthy of Grand Falls (Portage) passed away at
the age of 63 years. He was the husband of Ann (MacLeod)
McCarthy.
Damon A. McCarthy was born on March 5, 1956 in
Perth-Andover. He was raised on the Portage by his parents
Eugene and Margaret McCarthy. After graduating from high
school, he attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, NS
where he received an Agriculture Business Diploma. Upon
graduation, he returned home to work with his father growing
potatoes. A few years later, he purchased a dairy farm from
his uncle up the road from his parents. During this time, he
met his wife Ann and had four sons of who they were truly
proud. Over the years, he transitioned from dairy to beef
farming, and ultimately became the owner of a heavy equipment
construction business; Damon McCarthy & Sons Ltd., which he
enjoyed most of all. Over the past year, Damon welcomed
three new grandsons that have brought him great joy and
happiness. Damon always had a positive attitude towards life
and loved his family and friends.
Damon was a 3rd-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St.
Patrick’s Council 6414.
He is survived by his wife, his sons, Avery (Jess) of St.
John’s, NL, Arthur (Ashley) of Fredericton, Andrew (Katie) of Bayside,
NB and Alex of Grand Falls, three grandchildren, Jack, Caleb and Ayden
McCarthy, his mother, Margaret McCarthy of Victoria Glen Manor,
Perth-Andover, 12 siblings, David (Stephanie) of Upper Kent, Kevin
(Michelle) of Grand Falls, Bernadette (Aubrey) McLaughlin of Moncton,
Stephen (Bonnie) of Grand Falls, Rebecca (Randy) Brook of Calgary, AB,
Sarah (Ed) Pickard of Bath, Clara (Shane) Thomas of Fredericton, Alvin
(Cindy) of Tobique, Mark (Patsy) of Perth-Andover, Daniel (Angie) of
Florenceville-Bristol, John (Chantal) and Kenny (Becky) of Grand
Falls, brothers-in-law, John Reali (late Marlene) of Portland, ME and
Les Jarvis (late Brenda) of Hampton, as well as several nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his father in 2003, two
sisters, Marlene Reali and Brenda Jarvis and an infant brother
Avery.
Resting at O’Regan’s Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd.,
Grand Falls with visiting hours on Friday March 29th from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. and Saturday March 30th from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
His funeral service will be held Saturday, March 30th at 11
a.m. from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls Portage,
with Father Gilbert Doddatto and Father Curtis
Sappier officiating. Interment will be in the
adjoining cemetery at a later date.
