Alwyn Ada Burniston (December 19, 1922-March 14, 2019) passed away with her daughters by her side at the age of 96 years.

Alwyn was born in Sacriston, Durham County, England. She was 16 years old at the start of World War II. While many of the ‘boys in the village’ who were called upon to serve did not return from the war, her future husband, Bob, did. They were married on April 24, 1943. One year later they welcomed their first child Bob, followed by Ken, Marion, and Olwen.
In 1963, the family immigrated to Medicine Hat, Alberta. While in Alberta, Alwyn worked as a care aide in residential care facilities. Upon retiremnet Alwyn and Bob moved to the Okanagan, travelled extensively, and enjoyed each other’s company and the frequent company of their children and grandchildren.
Alwyn was a sensitive, compassionate, practical, and very capable person who lived a long and varied life. She was devoted to her husband and family, enjoyed travel and adventure, and loved a ‘good cuppa tea and a chinwag’. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary prior to Bob’s death in 2004.
We love you Mom. We’re sad for us but happy that you’re with Dad again, strolling arm in arm along the beach, smiling at each other and catching up on the last 15 years.
