Obituary of Edward Charles Savage
Edward Charles Savage / Empress Boom Boom Lubalicious was received into God’s Loving Embrace on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 Ed was beloved husband of John Burke-Savage; son of Brian Terrance and the late Anne Shirley Savage; father of Nathan; brother of Brian (Nancy), Steven (Deidre) and Kathy (Frank) MacDonald; son -in-law of Donna Acorn; brother -in-law of Robyn Gallant; uncle to nieces Salvana, Bryanna, Michelle, Stephanie, Amanda, Jamie and Sam; nephews, Ethan and Avery.
Ed / Boom Boom Lubalicious elevated minds, filled hearts with much love, compassion and respect as Mentor, Phenomenal Drag Performer, Entertainer, Philanthropist, Pride Chair, Empress, Father, Mother, Husband and Friend demonstrating tremendous faith.
Ed was born in 1967 and raised in Mira River, Cape Breton. Then moved to Halifax and became heavily involved in the community here. Ed/Empress Boom Boom fulfilled many achievements as one of the founding members of ISCANS, the Nova Scotia drag queen society, and was its Empress 4, 8 and 13 and had many out of town titles.
Ed was a tireless volunteer for the LGBT/AIDS oriented food bank, “Manna for Health” and producer of its main fundraiser, The Rev Darlene Young Memorial Christmas banquet serving hundreds, and raising thousands of dollars every year. For many years Ed was co-chair of the Halifax Pride Festival, raising the profile of the festival with his characteristic “thinking big.”
Ed helped to make drag into a well-known fixture in the Halifax night scene and around the Maritimes. Ed would travel all over to help raise funds for charity and to help make drag more mainstream. Ed even helped produce shows at Glace Bay’s Savoy theatre main stage and the Guild in PEI.
In 2013 Ed found the love of his life, John, they were married a couple of years later, and John was by his side until the end.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield. In keeping with Ed’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Elaine Walcott officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place at a later date in Alfred Smith Cemetery, Sydney.
