1929-2019
Ruth Elizabeth Newman Smith, born
Springhill, N.S., July 25,1929, died Feb. 18, 2019, daughter of John
“Jack” and Caroline (Newman) Smith of Athol,
N.S.
Graduate of Mount Allison University and
University of King’s College, where she worked for many
years as secretary to the president. Upon moving home to Athol, Ruth
worked at MRMS until her retirement. Ruth was a member of
All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill, and a valued member of Beta
Sigma Phi.
Survived by her brother, William (Joan),
of Amherst; niece Jocelyne Ruth (Simon) Lloyd, great-niece Grace Ruth
Lloyd and great-nephew, Vaughan Lloyd, all of Charlottetown,
P.E.I.
In addition to her parents, she was
predeceased by her brother, Newman, and an infant
nephew.
Thanks to the staff and kindness of
Centennial Villa for kindness shown during her stay there.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of A H Brown Funeral
Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2367), where visitation
will take place on Friday, February 22, 2019 from noon until 2 pm,
followed immediately at 2 pm by her funeral service, Rev. Dr. Brian J.
Spence officiating. Burial will take place in the
Southampton Cemetery in the spring.
Those wishing to make a donation in
Ruth’s memory may do so to the All Saints Anglican Church or a charity
of choice.
