Brimblecombe, Peter –
October 11, 1947 – February 13, 2019
Passed peacefully at Hospice Wellington at age 71 on Wednesday, February 13,
2019 surrounded by the love of his girls. He was the loving husband of Marnie with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this summer. He was the devoted father of Leanne (Gerard) Gouthro of Elora and Kellie (John) Opsteen of Campbellville and the ever-proud Grandpa and Mr. Fix It to Hannah and Lucy. He always had a soft spot and a treat for his granddogs, Murphy and Jesse.
He is predeceased by his parents Earl and Marg Brimblecombe and his sister Nancy (Tom) Murray. He will be forever remembered by his siblings Sharron (Jack) Meldrum of Port Elgin, Sylvia (Allan) Geisel of Guelph, Mike (Terri) Brimblecombe of Guelph and Greg Brimblecombe of Kitchener. He was son-in-law to the late Len and Marg Buck. He will be missed by his brother and sister-in-laws Gary and Thelma Buck, Sharron and Sylvio Valeriote, Judy Kerr, Norm and Donna Buck and Brad and Lorraine Buck all of Guelph.
Peter joined his Dad, Earl, at Lightning Delivery in 1966. In 1981, they added Guelph Mobile Signs to their business. After 38 years of working with the family, Peter and Marnie started their own company – Peter Brimblecombe Sign and Outdoor Lighting Service. In October of 2018, Peter officially retired hoping to spend more time at his and Marnie’s beloved cottage in the Muskokas. Peter believed in giving back to his community. He served as a Public School Trustee for 12 years with the Upper Grand District School Board and sat on the Committee of Adjustments for the City of Guelph for 10 years.
Peter battled his cancer the way that he lived his life – with courage and humour. He valued people and the many relationships that he had. Special thanks to all of the Bayshore nurses, especially Bonita without whom we couldn’t have made this long journey. Thanks also to the Oncology Department and the nurses on the Fifth Floor at Guelph General Hospital whose kindness will never be forgotten. The care provided by Hospice Wellington in his final days was deeply appreciated. To Kathy who helped to make this journey so much easier – thank you. We have been blessed with an abundance of friends and neighbours who provided so much help and support in the last two years. Your thoughtfulness means so much.
In memory of Peter, donations would be appreciated to either the The Peter
Brimblecombe Trades and Technology Award Fund (cheques payable to The Upper Grand Learning Foundation) which is an award given to a student of GCVI planning to pursue a career as an electrician or in a related field or to the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital (Maintenance Department).
Visitation will take place at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph on Thursday, February 21st from 7-9pm and on Friday, February 22nd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. In keeping with Peter’s wishes, there will be a Celebration of his Life at the Guelph Country Club at 133 Woodlawn Road East, Guelph on Sunday February 24th from 12-4pm with tributes starting at 3 o’clock. This is to be a party and Peter insists there are to be “no tears, just laughs and memories.” Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating Peter and the way he lived his life – “loving many, trusting few and always paddling his own canoe.”
