Patricia Anne Sampson Day 2019

Patricia Anne (Sampson) Day
Bras d’Or
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, Patricia Anne (Sampson) Day on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Patricia was born in Florence on August 25th 1936 and was the eldest child of Enos and Jane (Conway) Sampson.
Pat was happiest when spending time with her family. She could always be found with a friendly smile on her face. When not volunteering in her parish /community, she could be found at home baking one of her delicious recipes, some that family members are still trying to perfect to this day.
Patricia belonged to St. Joseph Parish Bras d’Or, where she was a very dedicated member, she was a church lector and served on Parish Council for many years. She was also heavily involved with St. Vincent De Paul Society, and was past district commissioner with Girl Guides.
In 1953-1954 Patricia attended Mabou Boarding School to study bookkeeping which not only allowed her the opportunity to start working at the Credit Union, but also resulted in a few life long friendships. Patricia started her career as the manager of Bras d’Or Credit Union, moved on to Florence Credit Union, and then eventually through amalgamation moved to Princess Credit Union where she worked for 30 years, until her retirement.
Patricia is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years Urban, children Urban Jr. (Kim), Natalie Carey, Michelle (Hugh) MacNeil, Darrell (Donna), Todd (Debbie) and Lorraine. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, Stacey, Brian Matthew, Gerard, Matthew, Evan, Ryan, Trevor, Janna, Jillian, Tristan and Jordan and 7 great grandchildren, whom she adored. Sisters, Olive (John Fraser), Doreen (John MacPhail), Carolyn (Keith Voutier). Brothers Enos (Bernadette) and Arthur (Judy), along with numerous nieces, nephews and brother and sister -in – laws.
Besides her parents Patricia was predeceased by her father and mother -in- law, Walter and Regis Day, son -in- law Brian Carey, brothers Ambrose and Stephen, sister, Lorraine Boudreau. As well as several brother and sister – in -laws.
The family would like to extend thanks to the County Homecare who helped mom over the past 5 years and many became such great friends. Also, to Capital Drugs, Palliative Care, and Brenda Grant, mom’s personal hair dresser. To Fr. Jake Andrea, Fr. Sandy MacNeil and Fr. Peter McLeod for their visits and prayers and to our wonderful neighbours who lent support and great food over the years.
Visitation for Patricia Day will be held on Thursday February 28, 2019 from 6-9 pm in the JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Friday March 1st at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Church Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. With a reception to follow in Bras d’Or Hall.
