Obituary of Osborne Bates
BATES: Osborne Wilson “Ozzie” –
A resident of Blenheim and formerly of Timmins, Ozzie Bates passed away with his wife by his side at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the age of 71.
Born in Simcoe, Ozzie was the son of the late Woodrow Bates and the late Margaret McLeod (late George).
Beloved husband and best friend to Linda Bates.
Adored father of Kristin, Leanne (Jason), Deanna, Jeff (Carrie), Todd (Catherine), Dwayne (Nicole), Dwight and Darcy. Special uncle to Barb, Kelvin, and the late Melvin. Special mentor to Tyler, Samantha, Matthew and Derek.
Proud Poppa of 30 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 8 great-grandchildren.
Dear brother to Marlene, Debbie (Rick), Trudy and Robin (Marie).
Predeceased by his siblings William “Billy”, Rodney, Delores, Judy and Darlene.
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends, extended family and pets.
Ozzie was an active participant in the Indigenous community and beliefs with many family members. He was a member of AA, having proudly received his 30 year medallion moments before he passed away. He successfully sponsored many members and will be fondly remembered by them.
Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Sunday, February 17, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. A Celebration of Ozzie’s Life will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Monday, February 18, 2019. Interment to follow at Lynnville Cemetery at a later date.
Donations made in memory of Ozzie to the Mount Brydges Animal Clinic (specified to the Barks and Meows Pet Rescue) would be appreciated.
