OBITUARY
Monica Yvonne McDormand
November 10, 1955 – February 4, 2019
McDormand, Monica Yvonne (Stevenson – Francis), age 63 of Digby passed away suddenly on February 4, 2019 at Digby General Hospital. Born Nov. 10, 1955 – She is survived by her loving husband Albert and beloved cat Willie; caring mother, Marion Stevenson, Digby; brothers: Aldwyn, Toronto; Travis (Julie), Dartmouth; sisters: Elizabeth (Brett), Weymouth; Leeann (Joseph), Digby; nephews: Michael (Danea), Dartmouth; Joshua (Tonia), Porter’s Lake, Matthew, Digby; nieces: Jennifer, Sackville; Tamecia, Dartmouth; and several great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Toby Lynn Stevenson, grandparents and many aunts and uncles. Monica was baptized and a member of the Digby Baptist Church. She worked over fourteen years in the fishing industry as a clam shucker for many local employers. She won first prize in the first-ever clam shucking contest hosted by Allen’s Fisheries at the Digby Scallop Days. Monica was the Assistant Activity Director at Tideview Terrace for two years. She continued to pursue a career in nursing at the Middleton NSCC and graduated fourth in her class as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in 1985. Monica then returned to work at Tideview Terrace as a CNA, before moving to Dartmouth, where she was employed at Northwood Nursing Home. She worked there for over three years before returning home to Digby, where she enjoyed working four seasons as a park nurse at Upper Clements Park from 1996-2000. Afterwards, she had the privilege working with Eric Bell, Sandy Bales and Michael Rolle on a community survey regarding health reform policies and completed many projects, located in the Acaciaville Church Hall. She then worked as a residential/vocational instructor at Conway Workshop for six years before an unfortunate injury ended her working career. Monica enjoyed life to the fullest, entertaining many guests, listening to country music, playing guitar, singing karaoke, dancing and “attempting” to cook for her friends. In the midst of waiting patiently for her talented husband to complete a song titled, “LOL” with the help of good company and friends. Everyone was a cherished sister, brother, or child/love. She was very passionate about helping others and was a confidant to many in times of need. Visitation will be 7-9 Friday, February 8, with a funeral service at 1 pm Saturday, February 9, followed by a reception all from Jayne’s Funeral Home Digby. Rev Jeff White presiding. Burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Jordantown. Donations in memory can be made to the charity of your choice. On line condolences to www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
