Obituary of Michael O’Leary
Michael Joseph O’Leary Sr. January 15, 1934 – February 3, 2019
Mike was the fourth of five children born to the late Arthur and Estella O’Leary of Ottawa, ON. Retiring from Royal Trust Company at the young age of 55 allowed Mike to spend his time doing the things he loved most: sailing Beaver Dam and Ponhook lakes, puttering at his cottage, and spending time with family and friends. His fondest memories were those of spending time with his grandchildren at the lake. In his later years, Big Mike continued to enjoy his cottage describing it as “heaven on earth”. Mike was predeceased by brothers Bill and Barry, sister Margo Erwin, sister-in-law Gaynor O’Leary all of Ottawa.
Left to mourn are his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandy, sons Mike (Christine), Port Hawkesbury, Jay (Bee Choo) Halifax, daughter Terri Brown (Bernard) Lakeside, sister Molly Fraser (Gus) , sister-in-law Eileen O’Leary, all of Ottawa, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 8th 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. Funeral Mass 10:00 Saturday February 9th St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the heart and stroke foundation. Online condolences and donations may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
