Obituary of Mary (LeClair) Ferguson
FERGUSON, Mary Margaret (Mockie LeClair)
Glace Bay
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Ferguson, 84, after a lengthy journey with Alzheimer’s disease on Monday, February 18.
She was the daughter of Harry and Stella LeClair of Dominion. She graduated high school at Saint Anne’s in 1952. The same year she met Donnie and a lifelong commitment was formed. They married in 1957, celebrating 61 years of married life.
Over the years, she volunteered for various causes. Her priority passion was with Girl Guides of Canada, where she spent over 25 years in various roles, up to and including Deputy Provincial Commissioner. She felt there was no organization that could hold a candle to Girl Guides.
A big part of her life was spending summers at Northside East Bay. After their first visit to the area, they knew this was the place to build their cottage, which became the summer home for all family for the past 57 years.
Mary was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Anne’s Parish, where she was active in church affairs and was a long time member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Mary is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters, Nancy (Bill) Booth, Antigonish, Patti Ann (Bruce) Carabin, Sydney; sons, David (Janice), Glace Bay and Donald (Gail), Northside East Bay; grandchildren, Mark (Lauren) Carabin, Colin Carabin, Patrice (Matt) Aboud, Ian & Andrea (Devin) Booth, Cole & Alexandra Ferguson, Connor (Victoria) & Maggie Ferguson; two great grandchildren, Jensen & Parker Aboud. She is also survived by sister, Carol Melnick (Wayne) Morris; sister-in-law, Patricia LeClair and numerous relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Carmella, Annie, Lillian, Leona and brother, John.
We would like to thank Dr. Bernice Dias and Dr. Stephanie Ellerker for the attentive care throughout the long journey. To John MacIntyre & 3rd West staff at the Glace Bay Hospital for the exceptional care during her 4 month stay & to Seaview Manor for the 10 days before her death.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at J.M. Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
