Obituary of Mary Turner
TURNER, Mary Ellen – Shortly after her 100th birthday, a lifelong resident of Thorold, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Millennium Trail Manor in Niagara Falls, Ontario. She was born on January 28th, 1919, daughter of the late Sidney and Margaret MacDonald. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Webber Turner, her son, George MacDonald Turner, and her loving sister, Phyllis Liddycoat. Mary was a devoted member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, participating in many church organizations and groups, throughout her lifetime. Other pastimes included participation with the Thorold Historical Society and the Associated Services. In addition to the above, she was a former employee of Hayes-Dana Steel Corporation and served as office secretary at the Ontario School in Thorold South for many years. Mary is survived by sons Allan David Turner (Iris) of North East, Pennsylvania; Gordon James Turner (Wanda) of Thorold; a daughter, Laura Phyllis Turner, of Thorold; and brother-in-law, Francis LeRoy Liddycoat of Thorold. She is also survived by a grandson, Graham Thomas Turner (Susan) and great-grandchildren, Juliana and Ethan Turner of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grandchildren Craig and Heather Turner of Burlington, Ontario. Additionally, she is survived by her best and lifelong friend, Mabel Moss of Thorold. Arrangements are being handled by Bocchinfuso Funeral Home in Thorold, Ontario. Burial and a remembrance celebration will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, individuals may offer a donation to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Thorold, Ontario.
