Mary Nowakowski
December 7, 1924 – February 9, 2019
Mary Nowakowski passed away at the Invermay Health Centre on February 9, 2019, at the age of 94 years.
Mary was born on December 7, 1924, to Joseph and Anastasia (Rutkowski) Barteski in the Invermay District, SK. She was the third of thirteen children. Mary attended Loch Sloy school, north of Invermay until grade 8, when she sacrificed her education to help on the family farm. Her early years were also spent working for the Ruden family in Canora, SK.
Mary met her future husband, Steve Nowakowski, when he was teaching at Loch Sloy school. They were united in marriage on July 28, 1948. The couple lived in the school teacherage for the first few years, then moved to Dydland school, north of Buchanan and eventually to Rama, SK. Together, they raised six children: Edward, Beverley, Joseph, Susan, Kenneth and Maureen. Mary was dedicated and active in her church parish and was a member of the Rama Ladies Community Club. She enjoyed curling, gardening, cooking and sewing. She was especially fond of watching her husband and sons, Joe and Ken, play ball. After her children left home, Mary gained employment and worked in Home Care until her husband passed away. Following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Mary became a resident of the Preeceville Personal Care Home. In 2012, she relocated to the Invermay Health Centre where she continued to reside until her passing on February 9, 2019.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
